Click here to take survey in English
Beginning July 1, 2013, the State of California implemented a new method of funding public schools called the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). This formula is structured to allow for local decision-making for our schools based on Eight Priorities established by the California Department of Education:
Implementation of Common Core State Standards
Other Student Outcomes
The procedure to start this process is in developing the district Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) to ensure that the funding is targeted to meet the needs of our students.
As an involved partner with our district, we are requesting you complete this survey to provide us with your suggestions and input in order to provide an optimum learning environment for students in the Duarte Unified School District.
COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS
DUSD is making the transition to Common Core State Standards. For an overview of how the Common Core State Standards will help students achieve at high levels and help them learn what they need to know to get to graduation and beyond, please watch this video presented by the Council for Great City Schools. http://vimeo.com/51933492
TAKE THE SMARTER BALANCED PRACTICE TEST CHALLENGE
Get a sneak peek at the new assessment our students will be taking to evaluate their learning of the Common Core State Standards. We are encouraging all of our students, staff, teachers, administrators and parents to experience the test for themselves during this trial period so we can be familiarized with not just the possible content, but the computer and test taking skills that are needed. You too can take the practice test that is available now by visiting http://sbac.portal.airast.org/practice-test/. We would be interested to get your feedback on your testing experience. We want to be able to offer our students every opportunity to do the best they can on this test and we are asking for your help and support to see that we do! For further resources and information about the Common Core State Standards visit http://www.cde.ca.gov/re/cc/.
S.T.E.P. MENTORING PROGRAM NOW AT DUSD
DUSD has Launched S.T.E.P. the Shoulder-Tapped Empowered Protege mentoring program. The goal of the program is to match students with mentors in an effort to build rapport and long lasting relationships between the students of DUSD and the community. The program is made available to our students in hopes of guiding them to take the proper steps towards emotional success, academic success and career exploration. Caring adult mentors are matched with students ages 14 to 22. Students meet one-on-one with their mentors on school grounds during academic hours at least once a month and one hour a week E-mentoring. If you are interested in volunteering to be a mentor or learning more about this opportunity, please contact Program Director, Naelh Othman 626-599-5908 or firstname.lastname@example.org
