November 2013 "Thankful? Oh Let Me Count the Ways"
"Thanksgiving" is unique to the United States in the fact that we set a day for "giving thanks." As Shakespeare might say, "Thankful? Oh let me count the ways." I am thankful for the hard working and dedicated staff in the Duarte Unified School District. You are all "merchants of HOPE" for the children and community we serve. The certificated, classified and administrative staffs have a heartfelt commitment to the success of our students and desire to help create "Shoulder-Tapped Graduates."
I am thankful for the community in which we serve. Duarte is a marvelous place to raise a family with a wonderful story to tell. Duarte, with all of its uniqueness, has a genuine sense of togetherness in everything we do. The city, the county and the school district work shoulder to shoulder to provide the essential support for our children and parents. The people of Duarte understand the responsibility they all share in regards to raising our children and that our success is based on the success of those we serve. I firmly believe that there is not a better place for a child to receive a quality education than in Duarte.
Last year I requested words that represented what we as a community "most wanted" for your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews or just kids that live in our neighborhoods. The responses were captured in this "wordle" that was created.
I am most thankful to work in a district and community where Passion, Success and Hope are the drivers of our actions. It is a pleasure to serve as your Superintendent and to serve the students and families of Duarte.
Have a great Thanksgiving and holiday season because you deserve it!
